Happy Chuseok! |
Today, September 22, 2010, Koreans celebrate their Chuseok Holiday or Thanksgiving Holiday. For us to have a clear vision of what a their holiday means, let me share to you this information about Chuseok.
Chuseok (Korean: 추석), originally known as Hangawi (한가위) (from archaic Korean for "great middle"), is a major harvest festival and a three-day holiday in Korea celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. Like many other harvest festivals, it is held around the Autumn Equinox. As a celebration of the good harvest, Koreans visit their ancestral hometowns and share a feast of Korean traditional food such as songpyeon.
Usually, Chuseok Holiday is a time were families get together and celebrate. It's also a time to rest for those people who has been busy during the whole year. People also do traditional dances, fun games and a lot more, in paying tribute for the whole years' harvest.
During Chuseok Holiday, Korean stars have this "tradition" of using a hanbok dress (traditional Korean dress) while greeting the Korean people Haepi Chuseok! (I'll show you some pictures of Korean stars wearing their hanbok dress next time)
For now let me show you this pictures..
